National Renewable Energy Fellowships 2010-11

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announces fellowships for pursuing PhD and post doctoral research in the field of Renewable Energy for the year 2010-11.

Applications in prescribed format are invited from eligible candidates for pursuing JRF / SRF / PDF in the field of renewable energy. The fellowship amount would be governed by the UGC / CSIR guidelines. Starting this year, the number of fellowships has been substantially increased as follows:
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) 40
Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) 40
Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) 20

ELIGIBILITY:
1. Junior Research Fellowship
The candidate must have 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in BE / BTech / MSc and should have been admitted for PhD in any branch of renewable energy in any higher educational institute /university / deemed university having facilities for such research work. Document in support of admission in PhD should be attached. The topic of research should pertain to basic / applied research in any of the thrust areas of renewable energy identified by the ministry.

The upper age limit for JRF shall be 28 years (as on the day on which the application is made), which is relaxed upto 5 years for candidates belonging to schedule castes / schedule tribes, women, physically handicapped and OBC categories as per Govt. of India rules and regulations.

JRF will be tenable initially for a period of two years. The term is extendable for one more year on the basis of assessment of the progress made and if not awarded the SRF. On Completion of two years as JRF, the stipend may be increased to Rs. 14000/- pm for the third year, on the basis of assessment of the Fellow’s research progress / achievements through interview by an expert committee, the composition of which will be notified in due course. JRF will be terminated from the date of PhD thesis submission or completion of tenure whichever is earlier.

2. Senior Research Fellowship

The candidate must have either BE / BTech / MSc degree with minimum 60% marks or
equivalent CGPA with at least two years of post BE / BTech / MSc research experience as evidenced from fellowship / associateship or traineeship and published papers in standard refereed journals or ME / MTech or equivalent degree in Engineering / Technology with minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.

The upper age limit for SRF shall be 32 years (as on the day on which the application is made), which is relaxed upto 5 years for candidates belonging to schedule castes, schedule tribes, women, physically handicapped and OBC categories as per the Govt. of India rules and regulations.
SRF will be given for a period of three years. The term is extendable by one year on the basis of assessment of the progress made by the Fellow as evidenced through publications. The combined tenure of JRF and SRF will not exceed five years.3. Post Doctoral Fellowship
The minimum qualification is PhD degree in the field of Renewable Energy.

The upper age limit for post doctoral fellowship shall be 35 years (as on the day on which the application is made), which is relaxed upto 5 years for candidates belonging to schedule castes, schedule tribes, women, physically handicapped and OBC categories as per Govt. of India rules and regulations. PDF will be awarded initially for one year. The fellowship can be extended for another two years maximum on year to year basis.

In Geography, emphasis will be on Geography of India. Questions on the Geography of India will relate to physical, social and
economic Geography of the country, including the main features of Indian agricultural and natural resources. Questions on Indian Polity and Economy will test knowledge of the country's political system and Constitution of India, Panchayati Raj, Social Systems and economic developments in India. On general mental ability, the candidates will be tested on reasoning and analytical abilities.

Note : The question paper will be set in English and will be objective type multiple-choice
questions.

THE MAIN EXAMINATION
will consist of written examination and Interview/ Personality Test.
The written examination will consist of the following papers : -
1) PAPER-I (General English) - 300 marks,

The candidates shall be selected as per their merit in the Entrance Examination to be held on 17th April 2011 at Nagpur, Delhi, Hyderabad Mumbai, Varanasi & Guwahati. Those students who are going to appear in 10+2 Higher Secondary Board Examination in March / April 2011 are also eligible to appear in the competitive Entrance Examination.

In the entrance examination the paper of Physics, Chemistry and Biology will have multiple choice questions, while that on Gandhian thought will be of long and short answer type.

All India Engineering Entrance Examination 2011 (AIEEE) Online Registrations starts from today 23rd Nov 2010 as per the CBSE Official website information. AIEEE 2011 is the 10th All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination for admission to B.E./B.Tech and B.Arch/B. Planning courses to various NITs, IIITs, Deemed Universities and for few State.

Sale of Information Bulletin will start from 15th December, 2010 from various branches of Banks/Institutions/Regional Offices of the Board.

However, for those willing to apply online, the facility for submission of online application will be available from 23rd November, 2010. This year, for the first time, the Board has also made facility available for appearing in online examination for one lac candidates on first come first served basis in select 20 cities with a capacity of 5000 per city. The detailed information is also available on AIEEE Website i.e. www.aieee.nic.in

Eligibility Criteria : The minimum academic qualification for appearing in AIEEE 2011 is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination (see Appendix IX) with 50% marks for general category candidates and 40% marks for SC/ST/OBC/PH category candidates. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination may also appear in AIEEE 2011 provisionally. Candidates appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) in 2012 or passed in 2008 or before are not eligible to appear in AIEEE 2011.

The Department of Biotechnology invites applications from the young researchers/scholars for considering ‘Innovative Young Biotechnologists Award’ (IYBA) for the year 2010. This award was instituted by the DBT in the year 2005, as an attractive, career-oriented scheme to identify and nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desire to pursue research in frontier areas of biotechnology.

The award will consist of financial support for a project and Cash Award/fellowship for the awardees. Awardees having a regular employment will receive a cash award of Rs.1.00/- lakh every year during the course of the project in addition to grant-in-aid of about Rs. 40.00/- Lakhs for a project. The awardees, those are not in the regular employment will receive a fellowship of Rs. 40,000/- per month and shall be attached to a Senior Scientist (Mentor) in a University, Research Institute, Medical/Agriculture/ Veterinary College or any other institute of repute.

It is expected that the awardees will work independently and the Mentor will facilitate the awardees research efforts.

Applications are invited for Pre-Medical/ Pre- Dental Entrance Examination (AIPMT) 2011 to be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi as per the following schedule for admission to 15 % of the total seats for Medical/Dental Colleges run byy the Union of India, State Governments, Municipal and other local authorities in India except in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Qualifications and Qualifying examination Codes:

The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.
Note: where the course content is not as prescribed for 10 +2 education structure of the National Committee, the candidates will have to undergo a period of one year pre - professional training before admission to the Medical Colleges.

(ii) The upper age limit for All India Pre-Medical /Pre-Dental Entrance Examination is 25 years as on 31st December of the year of the entrance examination. Further provided that this upper age limit shall be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes.

(a) 01.01.82 to 01.01.95 (SC/ST/OBC Category)
(b) 01.01.87 to 01.01.95 (Other Category)

Reservation: Reservation will be made as per following details in 15% All India quota:
(i) 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates,
(ii) 7.5% seats are reserved for ST candidates,
(iii) 27% seats are reserved for non-creamy layer OBC candidates in Central Educational Institutions only as per Hon’ble Supreme Court order dated 10.04.2008. Reservation would be applicable to the castes mentioned in the Central list of OBC. Thus, the candidates falling in this list may mention OBC in the Categary Column in application form.
