Dima Hasao, July 16, 2025: A deadly landslide struck Hangrum village under Mahur Police Station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Wednesday morning, killing two individuals and injuring several others. The incident occurred around 10:30 AM along the Mahur-Tamenglong National Highway, where a large section of earth collapsed onto the roadside.
The powerful landslide flattened at least five roadside shops and caught several people off guard. The deceased have been identified as Huajenam Riame, a 60-year-old local resident, and the driver of an excavator, whose identity is yet to be confirmed.
Emergency teams, including local police and disaster response personnel, reached the site swiftly to conduct rescue operations. The injured have been transported to Haflong Civil Hospital and are receiving medical treatment.
Rescue and debris clearance operations are still underway as authorities continue searching for possible survivors. Officials have also warned residents to stay away from the area due to the threat of further landslides amid continuous rainfall.
The remote location of Hangrum, coupled with poor communication networks, is hindering real-time updates and coordination of relief efforts. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as more information is expected in the coming hours.
