Govt of Mizoram Extends Ex-Gratia Support to Families of Deceased Journalists

Aizawl, July 16, 2025: In a gesture of gratitude and recognition, the Government of Mizoram today disbursed ex-gratia payments to the families of journalists who passed away in the last one year. The formal distribution ceremony, held at the I&PR Conference Hall, Lianchhiari Run, Aizawl, was presided over by Dr. Vanlalthlana, Minister for Information & Public Relations, Printing and Stationery Department.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Vanlalthlana paid heartfelt tribute to the deceased journalists and emphasized the critical role the media plays in shaping a democratic society. He expressed the government's continued commitment to honouring the contributions of media professionals.

The families of the following late journalists were provided financial assistance:

1. Pu Lalhmingmawia Pachuau – Editor, Pasaltha Daily, passed away on 21st November 2024.

2. Pu Johan Lalhmunmawia – News Stringer, DDK Lunglei, passed away on 2nd December 2024.

3. Pu H. Lalngaihawma – Editor, Hnehtu Daily, Aizawl, passed away on 23rd March 2025.

4. Pu T.C. Lalmuankima – Correspondent, RNU, AIR, passed away on 23rd December 2024.

As per government norms, accredited journalists’ families received ₹1,50,000 each, while non-accredited journalists’ families received ₹1,00,000 each.

The event was chaired by Department Secretary Pi Betsy Zothanpari Sailo, with I&PR Director Pu C. Lalnunkima offering words of thanks. MJA President Pu C. Lalrambuatsaiha also spoke, conveying deep respect and sympathy on behalf of the Mizoram Journalists Association.
