Kohima and Aizawl Among India’s Safest Cities for Women, Ranked 2nd and 5th in NARI 2025 Report

Shillong, August, 29: Kohima has secured the 2nd rank while Aizawl holds the 5th spot among the safest cities for women in India, as per the National Annual Report & Index on Women’s Safety (NARI) 2025. The report, drawing from women’s perceptions across 31 cities, highlights the continued leadership of the Northeast in public safety and gender-friendly urban environments.

Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, is celebrated not only for its historic charm, scenic cafés, and iconic festivals, but now also for its robust commitments to women’s safety. Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, rounds out the Northeast’s high-ranking performers with its inclusive public atmosphere and proactive women’s initiatives.

According to the NARI 2025 index, the top seven safest cities for women are:

1. Mumbai

2. Kohima

3. Vishakhapatnam

4. Bhubaneswar

5. Aizawl

6. Gangtok

7. Itanagar
