Manipur Police and Security Forces Seize Arms, Ammunition in Imphal East and Jiribam Operations

Imphal, August 28, 2025: Manipur Police made a significant breakthrough in their ongoing operations against illegal arms on Thursday, recovering a cache of sophisticated rifles and ammunition from the foothills of Uran-Chiru village and its surrounding area under Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East district.

Recovered items included three 5.56 x 45 mm INSAS rifles with magazines, one 7.62 x 39 mm AK-56 rifle with two magazines, two 7.62 x 39 mm Ghatak AK-47 rifles with two magazines, one 7.62 x 51 mm SLR rifle with magazine, one 9 mm MP5 rifle with two magazines, and a total of 232 live rounds of mixed calibers.

In a parallel operation, Security Forces recovered five country-made muzzle-loading SBBL guns, 33 rounds of AK ammunition, 30 vials of gun powder, a Baofeng walkie talkie, 100 lead pieces, and six gun powder filling iron rods from the area between Jairolpokpi and Mongbung Meitei villages under Jiribam Police Station, Jiribam district.

Authorities said both operations were based on specific intelligence inputs and targeted suspected arms dumps. The recoveries, which include both sophisticated and locally made firearms, underscore the ongoing challenge of illegal arms in the state.hindustantimes+1
