New Delhi, July 17, 2025: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended two more individuals in connection with the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati, Assam. The arrests are part of an ongoing probe into a larger conspiracy orchestrated by the proscribed terrorist group ULFA(I) to carry out multiple bomb blasts in Assam on Independence Day in 2024.
The two accused, Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both residents of Assam’s Dibrugarh district, were allegedly directly involved in the terror plot. According to the NIA, the duo conspired to strike terror and endanger the sovereignty and security of the nation.
With these latest arrests, the total number of people taken into custody in the case (RC-03/2024/NIA-GUW) has risen to three.

The NIA had taken over the investigation from Dispur Police in September 2024. Last month, it filed a chargesheet against three individuals under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UA(P)A], and The Explosives Substances Act.
Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing.
