Churachandpur, July 17, 2025: The Thadou Tribe Council (TTC-GHQ) has issued an appeal to the President of the United Naga Council (UNC), urging intervention to prevent alleged interference by the Joint Tribes Council (JTC) in the proposed Churachandpur (Songpi) to Kangpokpi (Kanggui) connectivity road project.
In a letter dated July 17, 2025, signed by TTC President Y.T. Haokip, the Thadou community expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Naga people during what it described as “hard times for the Kukis.” However, the letter raised concerns about persistent objections reportedly raised by individuals from the JTC, comprising the Inpui, Liangmei, Rongmei, and Zemei tribes.
The TTC clarified that the proposed road deliberately bypasses all JTC areas and passes solely through Chiru Khoirou/Dolang Khunou Village - land belonging to the Chiru tribe, described in the letter as “blood brothers” of the Kukis. The TTC emphasized that the alternate route was chosen to avoid any disturbances in JTC territories and to maintain peace and mutual respect.
The council expressed disappointment over a memorandum reportedly issued by the JTC on July 15, which accused the Kuki community of encroaching upon Naga ancestral land. The TTC strongly refuted this claim, stressing that the route was specifically designed to avoid JTC land altogether.
Highlighting the importance of tribal unity and Christian fraternity, the TTC urged the UNC to advise the JTC against making unilateral accusations and interfering in matters where they “have no legal authority.”

“We hope your able leadership will solve this matter once and for all, to give peace a chance - to live and let live as fellow tribals and fellow Christians,” the appeal concluded.
Copies of the letter were also sent to the Naga Hoho and the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) for their information and necessary action.
