The accused include:

  • Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom, Chairman and SS Commander-in-Chief of ULFA (I)
  • Abhijeet Gogoi alias Aishang Asom
  • Jahnu Boruah alias Arnob Asom

They have been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UA(P)], and The Explosives Substance Act.

The NIA investigation revealed that the trio was directly linked to the IED planted at Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati, one of the sites targeted in a larger conspiracy to execute coordinated blasts across the state to disrupt Independence Day celebrations and spread terror.

The case was taken over by the NIA in September 2024. Investigators concluded that the IEDs were designed to cause loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property, with the intent to threaten India’s unity, integrity, and sovereignty.

The NIA continues to probe the case under RC-03/2024/NIA-GUW.
