Imphal, June 16, 2025: In a heart-wrenching tragedy that has cast a pall of mourning across Manipur, two young women from the state - Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma (22) and Lamnunthem Singson (28) lost their lives in the Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad on June 12.
Both women were serving as crew members on the ill-fated flight and had shown exemplary commitment to their profession. Described as symbols of aspiration, courage, and grace, their untimely demise has left not only their families but the entire state in deep sorrow.
In an official press note issued today, the Government of Manipur expressed profound grief over the loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. “This is not just the loss of two lives - it is the silencing of dreams, the departure of daughters who brought pride to Manipur,” the note stated.
The state government has informed both Tata Group and Air India of its preparedness to receive the mortal remains of the two deceased crew members in Imphal. All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure their remains are received with full dignity and safely transported to their respective homes.

However, the government emphasized that all final decisions regarding the reception and funeral arrangements will be made in accordance with the wishes of the families. The State has pledged its full support during this time of immense grief.
