Aizawl, June 16, 2025: Leader of Opposition and MNF Vice President, Pu Lalchhandama Ralte, has strongly criticized the ruling Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) government for its handling of public finances, alleging a serious lack of fiscal discipline and project implementation.
Speaking during a meeting at the Mizo Hnam Run, Pu Lalchhandama claimed that even after completing over a year in office, the ZPM government has failed to attract or initiate any significant centrally-sponsored projects from Delhi. He pointed out that despite a favorable political environment, no major breakthroughs were seen in terms of project funding, share of taxes, or CSS (Centrally Sponsored Schemes) flows.
He further alleged that the SASCI funds (State Allocation for Special Capital Investment) had been allowed to lapse, showing poor financial planning by the Finance Minister. According to him, it is concerning that the state has failed to manage and utilize even the available funds effectively.
The Opposition leader also expressed alarm over Mizoram’s declining GST collection, stating that the state’s revenue from GST has consistently decreased over the past year. He cited expert opinions indicating that this drop is due to low capital expenditure and reduced central project activities in the state.

He added that the growing fiscal deficit is a direct result of the government's inability to manage state finances prudently. If not addressed promptly, this could have severe implications for the state's economic future, he warned.
