Imphal, June 16, 2025: In a major breakthrough in the case of the missing differently-abled man from Paobitek Mayai Leikai, police have arrested nine individuals, including members of the Arambai Tenggol (AT) group and civilians, in connection with the incident.
The case relates to the disappearance of Chesam Abdul Kadir alias Achouba, a 29-year-old differently-abled man, who went missing on the night of June 10. Kadir, who holds a disability certificate issued by the Social Welfare Department, was last seen leaving his residence around 11 PM. His disappearance led to the formation of a Joint Action Committee (JAC), which staged protests demanding swift action.

Following the investigation, Heikrujam Prafulo Singh, 35, a resident of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai and owner of the house where Kadir was reportedly found on the intervening night of June 10 and 11, was arrested and remanded to police custody till June 23.
Further arrests included five more individuals, among them three AT members identified as Longjam Henson alias Naocha Meitei (24), Thounaojam Ashok Singh (20), and Huidrom Shyamsunder Singh (30), all hailing from Imphal West. Two other civilians, Heikrujam Premchand alias Puremba (28) and Sapam Dayani Devi (42), both from Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, were also taken into custody. All five were produced before the Magistrate and remanded to police custody till June 23.

According to officials, a total of six Arambai Tenggol members and three civilians have been arrested so far in connection with the case. Police have also seized five vehicles believed to have been used in the incident, including three Gypsies, one DI pick-up, and one Activa scooter.
