‘She-Rise’ Zero Waste Period Mission Inaugurated in Meghalaya

Shillong, June 23, 2025: In a pioneering move for women’s health and environmental sustainability, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the production unit of ‘She-Rise’, a Zero Waste Period Mission under the Green Meghalaya Initiative, at Laitkroh.

Launched by the Shubham Charitable Association, She-Rise is the first initiative of its kind in the North East dedicated to the production of reusable sanitary pads. The mission aims to promote menstrual hygiene while reducing plastic waste and empowering local women through employment opportunities.

“It is a remarkable step towards menstrual hygiene, sustainability, and women’s health,” said CM Conrad Sangma. He also commended the Association’s effective use of the ₹5 lakh grant from the Chief Minister’s Special Fund to procure essential machinery and create jobs for over 25 women in the community.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to empowering grassroots efforts that align with broader goals of gender equity and environmental responsibility.

Chief Minister Sangma encouraged public support for the initiative, stating, “Let’s build a healthier, cleaner Meghalaya - together.”
