Shillong, June 21, 2025: On the occasion of World Music Day, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma officially launched Season 3 of the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project, rebranded as the Chief Minister’s Grassroots Music Production (CMGMP) - a move that transforms the initiative into a permanent, structured music development program for the state’s aspiring musicians.
What began as a ₹3.5 crore initiative supporting 2,500 artists has now evolved into a ₹69 crore statewide movement, impacting over 5,400 artists and enabling more than 38,000 performances across Meghalaya.
“This is not just a name change. It’s a movement,” said Sangma on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that CMGMP will now offer fixed venues, structured music theory training, and enhanced support for production - providing musicians with not just a stage, but the tools to grow professionally.
Reflecting on his personal journey as a young artist, the Chief Minister shared, “As someone who once struggled to be heard as a young musician, this project is deeply personal. I want every young artist in our state to feel seen, heard, and empowered to chase their dreams.”
