Guwahati,  June 22, 2025: In a significant step towards inclusive development, the Assam Cabinet on Sunday approved the formation of the Rabha Development Council, aimed at addressing the socio-economic and cultural needs of the Rabha communities residing outside the jurisdiction of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC).

Rabha Development Council For Non-RHAC Areas Gets Assam Cabinet Approval

The decision was announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing following the Cabinet meeting. “We had earlier announced that a development council would be formed for Rabha people who reside outside the jurisdiction of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council. Today, the Cabinet has given its formal approval to this plan. The Rabha Development Council will work exclusively for the welfare of these communities,” the Chief Minister said.

While the RHAC continues to function as a statutory body representing Rabhas within its designated area, many Rabha families living beyond its territorial bounds have long lacked structured government support. The newly approved Council aims to bridge that gap by implementing welfare schemes focused on education, culture, livelihood, and overall community development.

The formation of this Council marks a crucial move to ensure equitable growth and recognition for all Rabha communities across Assam, regardless of geographical jurisdiction.
