Manipur to Roll Out Electronic Driving Licences and Registration Certificates

Imphal, June 21, 2025: In a significant step towards digital governance and citizen convenience, the Directorate of Transport, Government of Manipur, has announced the upcoming implementation of electronic Driving Licences (eDL) and electronic Registration Certificates (eRC).

The initiative, aligned with the Digital India Mission and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, aims to reduce the need for physical visits to transport offices while making vital documents easily accessible to the public.

Manipur to Roll Out Electronic Driving Licences and Registration Certificates

Both the eDL and eRC will be issued in a secure, self-printable PDF format, fully legally valid under the Motor Vehicles Act, and can be accessed anytime via DigiLocker and mParivahan apps. Citizens will no longer need to worry about reprinting or physically collecting these documents from the Transport Department.

The Manipur government joins the growing list of states - including Assam, Kerala, Rajasthan, and Odisha - that have already implemented the digital system, marking another forward-looking reform under the state's ongoing digital transformation efforts.

Officials stated that the move will not only enhance transparency and efficiency in service delivery but also empower citizens by ensuring greater accessibility and reliability of essential transport documents.

The rollout is expected to commence soon, and the public will be informed of the exact implementation date and how to access the services.
