The district jail at Kajalgaon in Chirang, built at a cost of ₹72.79 crore, has a capacity of 500 inmates, inclusive of male, female, and third-gender prisoners. Equipped with modern facilities and the latest security features, the facility includes 60 quarantine cells, 5 solitary confinement cells, space for 35 detainees under the National Security Act (NSA), a 28-bed male ward, and a 10-bed female ward.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister highlighted that these jails are not just detention facilities but also rehabilitation centers where inmates will receive vocational training and opportunities for reform. “These infrastructure upgrades will support the judiciary in housing undertrials and convicts as deemed fit, while also focusing on reformation and reintegration,” Sarma said.
