Imphal West, June 17, 2025: Tensions ran high in Paobitek Mayai Leikai today as security forces fired tear gas to disperse a group of protesters demanding justice for Chesam Abdul Kadir, a missing youth whose body was exhumed earlier in the day.
Kadir, who had been reported missing for several days, was confirmed dead after police recovered his body, buried at an undisclosed location. The exhumation was carried out in the presence of an executive magistrate, a forensic team, and family members, as part of an ongoing investigation.
In response to the tragic discovery, locals staged a protest, expressing anger over the brutal killing. A Joint Action Committee (JAC) was also formed to demand justice and swift action against those responsible.
Police have registered a criminal case and confirmed the arrest of nine suspects linked to the incident. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and have vowed to bring all culprits to justice.
