Numaligarh, June 30, 2025: Assam is set to witness a landmark moment in industrial innovation and green energy as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Numaligarh on September 8 to dedicate the country’s first bamboo-based bio-ethanol plant to the nation.
Ahead of the Prime Minister's visit, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) site on Monday to review preparations. During his visit, he also inaugurated the newly developed Dhansiri Township of NRL and addressed the media.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister described the upcoming inauguration as the "dawn of industrial development in Assam." He shared that the bio-refinery, constructed at a cost of approximately ₹4,000 crore, is India’s first of its kind and is expected to transform the region into a hub for green fuel production.
“This bamboo-based bio-refinery is a pioneering step in India’s journey toward sustainable energy,” Sarma stated. “It not only strengthens our commitment to renewable energy but also brings economic opportunities to the people of Assam.”
The Chief Minister also highlighted the ongoing expansion of the Numaligarh Refinery, positioning it as a key industrial engine for the Northeast.
