Kuki-Zomi-Hmar Tribals to Observe Separation Day on May 3

Tuiá¹­haphai, April 29, 2025 – The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) has announced that “Separation Day – A Day of Separation from the Meiteis” will be observed on May 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Wall of Remembrance in Tuibuong. The event will also mark the sixth phase of the Jangnadopna movement.

The program will be hosted by Thangzamang, President of the United Zo Organisation (UZO), and co-hosted by Esther Zouneichin of the MPC Women Wing. The event will commence with an opening prayer by Rev. Dr. M. Thongkhosei Haokip, Chairman of the Kuki Christian Leaders’ Fellowship.

K. Lalbiaksanga, President of the Manipur People’s Council (MPC) and Chairman of the ITLF Program Making Committee, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address. Throughout the program, several musical and cultural performances will be presented by groups including the Joint Artistes Association, Blending Chords (Lenchung), Thianhoih, Mizo Zaimi Inzawmkhawm (MZI), and Gladys Lalparzo Sanate.

Key speeches will be delivered by Rev. JF Lalropuia, Treasurer of the Goodwill Council; Henlianthang Thanglet, Chairman of the Kuki-Zo Council; representatives from Central YMA, Mizoram; All NGOCC, Mizoram; and Lalmuampuia Punte, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Mizoram. Paolienlal Haokip, MLA from Saikot A/C, is also among the scheduled speakers.

The event will include a one-minute silence led by the hosts to honor past sacrifices, and it will conclude with a vote of thanks from Ch. Henkholun Khongsai, Vice President of the Kuki Inpi Council (KIC), followed by a closing prayer offered by Rev. Th. Khuala Vaiphei, Finance Secretary of the Goodwill Council.

The observance underscores ongoing sentiments of separation and identity among the tribal communities in the region.
