Aizawl, June 3, 2025, Virthli: Ongoing heavy rainfall has caused severe damage across Mizoram, resulting in the loss of five lives and widespread destruction in various parts of the state.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), a total of 598 affected sites have been officially recorded between May 24 and June 3. Among the hardest-hit areas, 190 road sections have been blocked, severely disrupting transportation and connectivity. Additionally, landslides have been reported in 119 locations, further compounding the challenges faced by local residents.
The deluge has also damaged three graveyards, seven agricultural areas, and nine electric poles, adding to the infrastructural burden. In terms of residential damage, 171 houses were partially affected, while 244 homes have become uninhabitable due to landslides. Moreover, 119 houses were swept away by flash floods.

Displaced families are currently taking shelter in community halls and safe zones, with many being assisted by neighbors and local volunteers. The state government continues to monitor the situation closely and is coordinating relief efforts for affected citizens.
Authorities have urged residents living in vulnerable areas to remain on high alert, as more rain is expected in the coming days.
