Aizawl, June 1, 2025, Virthli: Amid concerns over disrupted transportation and access due to heavy monsoon rains, the Mizoram Supply Department on Sunday assured the public that there is no immediate shortage of essential food grains, including rice, across the state.
In an official statement, the department confirmed that monsoon buffer stock has already been pre-positioned in remote and vulnerable areas, including villages that may become inaccessible during the rainy season. It added that there is no cause for panic or hoarding, and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary bulk buying, especially of rice.
The department acknowledged that there were some temporary supply issues in areas where movement of goods is hampered by landslides and damaged roads, but noted that these are being addressed with urgency.
Meanwhile, the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) also issued a statement, appreciating the efforts of its sub-headquarters, groups, and branch units across the state in responding to the ongoing difficulties caused by heavy rainfall. The CYMA acknowledged the role of local volunteers in assisting stranded travelers and clearing blocked roads, especially along routes like Aizawl-Lunglei and Aizawl-Champhai highways, which have been badly affected.
The CYMA also called upon its Office Bearers to remain vigilant and stay in close coordination with its Central Disaster Response Team (CDRT), which may be deployed if the situation worsens.

The organization expressed gratitude to all involved, particularly highlighting support from units in Serchhip, Saitual, and Hmuifangtlang regions, including the Sialsuk Branch YMA, who are actively engaged in community-level relief and recovery efforts.
Authorities and civil society continue to monitor the situation as the monsoon intensifies across Mizoram.
