Churachandpur, June 20, 2025: The brutal killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing Haokip, wife of Langchingmanbi village chief Mr. Khaikhogin Haokip, has sparked widespread outrage among civil society groups in Manipur. The tragic incident occurred on the evening of June 19, 2025, when Mrs. Haokip was allegedly shot dead by suspected Meitei militants in what has been described as a senseless and inhumane act of violence.
In a strongly worded press release, the Young Vaiphei Association (YVA) General Headquarters condemned the act, calling it “barbaric, senseless, and unjustifiable.” The YVA described the killing as a grave violation of fundamental rights and demanded justice under the law. “We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for peace to the departed soul,” the statement read.

Similarly, the Vaiphei Women Association (VWA) General Headquarters also issued a condemnation, labeling the attack as a disrespect to humanity and a violation of the fundamental right to life. The VWA urged the government to take immediate and necessary steps to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure exemplary punishment. “This senseless and forceful taking of human life is a violation of the rights to life and liberty,” the association emphasized.
Both organizations called for urgent government intervention, justice for the grieving family, and stronger measures to prevent such acts of violence in the future.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, intensifying calls for peace, accountability, and the protection of civilians amidst ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur.
