Churachandpur, June 20, 2025: The Kuki Inpi Youth Affairs (KIYA) has issued a strong condemnation over the brutal killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing Haokip, wife of Mr. Khaikhogin Haokip, the Village Chief of Langchingmanbi. According to the organisation, Mrs. Hoikholhing was shot dead during a crossfire between central security forces and armed Meitei militants inside her village on June 19, calling the act a clear failure of the government to protect innocent civilians.

Describing her as an unarmed and innocent woman, KIYA stated that her death was directly linked to the Wakan incident on June 15, where a large Meitei mob from Leitanpokpi, Imphal East, allegedly infiltrated the buffer zone and stormed into Wakan village, a Kuki-inhabited area under Saikul Subdivision, Kangpokpi District. Despite clear signs of growing tension, authorities allegedly failed to act, emboldening extremist elements and allowing violence to escalate.

“This should have served as a warning,” KIYA said, “but the silence and negligence of the authorities have only emboldened repeated buffer zone violations and extremist violence.”

Calling the incident a result of “systemic negligence,” KIYA rejected “hollow sympathies” and warned of rising public unrest if swift justice is not delivered. The organisation demanded immediate accountability and justice for Mrs. Hoikholhing and reiterated that the patience of the Kuki people “has limits.”
