Churachandpur, June 4, 2025, Virthli: According to a statement from the Manipur Police, in a major crackdown on extortion and illegal arms activities, security forces conducted intelligence-based combing and cordon-and-search operations across vulnerable areas of the state, resulting in significant arrests and arms recoveries.
On June 3, four cadres of the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA), a non-SoO (Suspension of Operations) group, were apprehended from Kerith village near Rengkai in Churachandpur district. The arrested individuals - Samuel Kamninhao (21), Hegun Seimingun (21), Thangminhou Touthang (22), and Mangkhohao Touthang (38) - were allegedly involved in arms smuggling, extortion, and threatening civilians at gunpoint.
Security personnel recovered two 9mm live rounds and three mobile phones from the group.
Earlier, on June 2, a separate search operation in the Rashidpur area under Jiribam district led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition. Seized items included one DBBL gun, three country-made barrel guns, a Pompi gun with two rounds, 42 AK live rounds, multiple rounds and empty shells from M16, SLR, Sniper, and INSAS rifles, two hand grenades, seven bulletproof vests (without plates), two helmets, camouflage gear, and nine combat shoes.
