Lawngtlai West MLA C. Ngunlianchunga Granted Bail by Special Court

Lawngtlai, 17 June 2025: Congress MLA from Lawngtlai West, Pu C. Ngunlianchunga, was granted bail today by the Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption), Pu F. Rohlupuia, following his court appearance. The court approved his bail plea and scheduled the next hearing for July 22, 2025.

According to court proceedings, Pu Ngunlianchunga was not placed under arrest, and his bail was granted on the grounds that the court did not find sufficient reason for immediate detention. The bail was also considered in view of no threat of evidence tampering or influencing witnesses, as well as health concerns.

The case involves allegations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) related to the misappropriation of NLCPR funds during his tenure as Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC). He is accused of irregularities in connection with the Lawngtlai bypass road project.

Pu Ngunlianchunga had earlier acknowledged in the March 2025 Mizoram Assembly session that he was aware of the case following a query raised by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma. He admitted to withdrawing Rs 4.7 lakh in 2013 as LADC CEM and stated that he ceased handling the funds after assuming ministerial office in January 2014, denying misappropriation of any public funds.

The case will continue with further hearings as the investigation proceeds.
