South Garo Hills, June 17, 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated the Chitmang Chaiwat Nature-Based Glamping Project at Badri Rongdong, located in South Garo Hills District.
The eco-tourism initiative, developed over 21 hectares of land, showcases a model of community-led conservation and sustainable tourism. The site features unique Garo-style cabins and eco-friendly glamping domes, reflecting the region’s rich culture while promoting environmental preservation.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Sangma commended the local community and the Soil & Water Conservation Department for their collaborative efforts in bringing the vision to life. He highlighted that the project not only supports nature conservation but also creates jobs and strengthens local livelihoods.
“This project is a testament to what community-led development can achieve - preserving nature while boosting eco-tourism,” he said, adding that such efforts will help put South Garo Hills on the global sustainable tourism map.
