Churachandpur, June 19, 2025: The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Churachandpur has strongly condemned the cold-blooded killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing, wife of the village chief of Langchingmanbi, expressing deep sorrow and solidarity with the bereaved family and the larger Kuki-Zo community.
In a media release issued, the KSO criticized what it described as the “ill-advised and reckless” decision by the Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur to permit wetland cultivation up to 300 metres from the upper canal - a move that allegedly encroaches into areas adjacent to vulnerable Kuki settlements. The organization stated that this decision not only disregards the volatile ground realities but also threatens the safety and security of Kuki people in the region.
The KSO further expressed outrage at the continued administrative control of Bishnupur by a Meitei officer, calling it highly objectionable and provocative, especially amidst the ongoing ethnic tensions. The organization contrasted the situation with other sensitive districts such as Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, and Churachandpur, where neutral officers have been appointed to help maintain peace and impartiality.
“The continuation of a partisan officer in Bishnupur is not just a lapse in judgment - it is a direct provocation and a failure of the state machinery,” the KSO stated.

Citing the recent Wakan incident and today’s tragic killing as clear evidence of administrative failure, the KSO held the DC of Bishnupur accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation in the district.
In response to the developments, the KSO Churachandpur announced its full endorsement of the indefinite shutdown declared by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF). However, the KSO clarified that essential services including medical emergencies, telecommunications, media, water supply, and planned programmes would be exempted from the scope of the shutdown.
