Guwahati, June 19, 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling, an East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Basistha Police Station and Jorabat Outpost intercepted a truck at the Jorabat check post based on specific intelligence inputs.
The truck, bearing registration number AS01RC7957, was en route from Guwahati to Aizawl when it was stopped and thoroughly inspected. During the inspection, 151 cartons of Royal Stag (1,812 bottles) and 9 cartons of Royal Parrys Whisky (108 bottles) were discovered concealed inside Exide and SF battery boxes.
The seized liquor stock, which was labeled for sale only in Meghalaya, was being transported illegally across state lines, violating excise laws.

The driver, Kobir Hussain Laskar (23), and the handyman, Milon Hussain Laskar (22), were apprehended on the spot. The truck and the entire illegal consignment have been seized, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the duo.
Guwahati Police confirmed that strict action will be taken to curb the smuggling of illicit liquor and ensure compliance with interstate transport regulations.
