Itanagar, June 15, 2025: In a first-of-its-kind development, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) K.T. Parnaik, chaired a special Cabinet meeting on June 13 at the Chief Minister’s Office in Niti Vihar, Itanagar, to mark the completion of one year of the BJP-led state government’s current tenure.
During the meeting, the Governor congratulated Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy CM Chowna Mein, and the Council of Ministers for their governance and dedication to public service. He praised their “commitment to the welfare of the people” and expressed confidence in the state’s continued progress under their leadership.
However, the Governor’s presence in the Cabinet meeting has sparked a constitutional row, with senior Congress leader and former MP Takam Sanjoy calling the act “unprecedented and unconstitutional.” In a strongly worded statement, Sanjoy condemned the move, saying, “The Governor has no role in Cabinet meetings. This is a serious breach of democratic protocol and constitutional boundaries.”

Sanjoy argued that the action undermines the federal structure and sets a “dangerous precedent,” questioning whether the central government’s approval for such a move signals further erosion of democratic norms. “Today it’s the Cabinet - what’s next?” he asked.
He urged the public, especially those who value democratic traditions, to remain vigilant and oppose such “deviations from constitutional governance.”
