Guwahati, June 5, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated the Lovlina Boxing Academy in North Guwahati, hailing it as a milestone in the state’s sporting journey. Named after Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain, the academy is envisioned to become a premier training ground for young boxing talent in Assam.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister praised Lovlina’s achievements and described her as a symbol of inspiration for the youth. “Lovlina – a name that evokes pride in every Assamese heart,” Dr. Sarma said. “This academy will not only honour her legacy but also nurture the next generation of pugilists.”
To support the academy’s growth, the state government has announced ₹2 crore in funding through the Sports Department. The funds will be used for developing infrastructure, including the construction of a hostel for trainees.

Lovlina Borgohain is a celebrated Indian boxer from Assam who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the welterweight category. She is also a recipient of the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri, and remains a trailblazer for women in sports in the region.
