Guwahati, June 5, 2025, Virthli: In a decisive step to bolster wildlife protection, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced the distribution of modern arms and vehicles to forest guards during the state-level World Environment Day celebrations held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
“Poachers beware! Our forest guards are now equipped with the latest arms to protect our diverse faunal friends,” the Chief Minister declared on social media, underscoring the government’s commitment to wildlife conservation.
Speaking to the media after the event, Dr. Sarma highlighted several key initiatives undertaken by the state in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's #EkPedMaaKeNaam campaign. He announced that nearly 90,000 saplings have been planted across Assam so far in 2024.
Furthering the green mission, the Chief Minister launched:
A citizen-friendly portal where individuals can upload updates and growth stages of their planted saplings.
A real-time AI-based portal to track deforestation and monitor green cover via satellite imagery.

The state government’s multi-pronged strategy also emphasizes responsible waste disposal. The Chief Minister urged citizens to manage household waste properly to maintain ecological balance.
