Lakhimpur, June 16, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation stone and performed the Bhoomipujan for a state-of-the-art centralised community kitchen by the Akshaya Patra Foundation at Bebejia, Kamartup, Lakhimpur.
The upcoming kitchen, spread across 16 bighas, will be constructed at a cost of ₹25.50 crore. It will cater to school children by providing midday meals under the PM Poshan scheme. The G+1 facility will feature a staff training center, multipurpose hall, administrative offices, and residential quarters for senior staff.
Speaking to the media after inaugurating the newly built CEO office in Lakhimpur, the Chief Minister highlighted the features of the new building and addressed concerns regarding job losses due to the new kitchen.
Dr. Sarma assured that no Cook-cum-Helper will lose their jobs with the implementation of the centralised kitchen. "The government values their contribution and will ensure their continued employment," he said.
