CM Conrad Sangma Launches Meghalaya’s First Sailing Yacht ‘Meghalinor’ at Umiam Lake

 Shillong, June 4, 2025, Virthli: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the state’s first sailing yacht, Meghalinor, at the picturesque Umiam Lake, marking a major boost for the state’s experiential tourism and water sports potential.

Describing the launch as a “significant step” in Meghalaya’s tourism journey, the Chief Minister said Meghalinor will offer visitors a unique way to experience the natural beauty of the state. “We are committed to working with other North Eastern states to build a vibrant tourism circuit that showcases our diverse cultures and landscapes,” Sangma tweeted.

With Meghalaya slated to host the National Games in 2027, the Chief Minister also emphasized the state’s focus on developing water sports infrastructure. He said the strong performance of local athletes at the recent National Games has inspired greater investment in training and facilities to support youth and unlock sports potential in the region.
