Shillong, June 3, 2025: In a major step toward upgrading air connectivity in Meghalaya, the state Cabinet has approved the direct purchase of land required for the expansion of the Shillong Airport runway.
According to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the expansion necessitates an additional 11.75 acres of land. A committee led by the Deputy Commissioner was constituted to engage with local residents and negotiate compensation packages.
“After detailed discussions and negotiations, the compensation amount covering land, trees, crops, and buildings has been finalized,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the move will pave the way for critical infrastructure development in the state.
