Senapati, June 21, 2025: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has announced a five-day office picketing campaign across all Naga Hill Districts of Manipur from June 23 to June 27, 2025, in protest against the construction of border fencing and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.
In a press release issued from its headquarters in Tahamzamt, Senapati, ANSAM reaffirmed its firm stance against the border fencing project which it claims threatens the ancestral homeland and the integrity of Naga families living across the international boundary. The association termed the move as an “imposed” measure that undermines the unique cultural and historical realities of the Naga people.
The announcement follows a resolution passed during ANSAM’s presidential council meeting on June 16, 2025, which called upon all its constituent and subordinate bodies to actively enforce the picketing in their respective jurisdictions.
“This movement is a united demonstration expressing our resentment,” the release stated, warning that any unwanted incidents arising from the protest will be the responsibility of the Government of India and the Government of Manipur.

Furthermore, ANSAM warned individuals, contractors, transporters, and agencies against involvement in transporting or supplying materials for the construction of the border fencing. The association declared that any entity found aiding the project would be held accountable for consequences arising from their actions.
Calling for the utmost cooperation and support from the Naga populace, ANSAM emphasized that the action is necessary to defend the ancestral land and cultural freedom of Naga communities across the region.
