New Delhi, June 14, 2025: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the sanctioning of ₹951.27 crore for the construction of the Tura Bypass in Meghalaya. The project will cover 29.03 km, extending from NH-127B to NH-217, and will be built as a 2-lane highway with paved shoulders.
The bypass will begin near Sanchonggre village on NH-127B and end at Jenggitchakgre village on NH-217, strategically designed to divert traffic away from the congested core of Tura town. The current route of NH-217, formerly NH-51, runs through Tura’s urban center, where narrow roads and high traffic volumes cause major bottlenecks.
