Guwahati, June 6, 2025: In a significant move towards bolstering Assam's presence in the aerospace and defence sector, Chief Secretary of Assam held a high-level meeting with Shri Sohel Kazani, Managing Director and Founder of Bharat Freight Group, and Shri Yashas Karanam, Director and COO of Bellatrix Aerospace Pvt. Ltd.
The discussions centered around the potential establishment of an Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) manufacturing plant in Assam, dedicated to the production and testing of satellite subsystems, propulsion systems, payloads, and other key components vital to space and defence technologies.
According to officials, the proposed facility will feature a range of specialized infrastructure, including:
- An advanced Electronics Laboratory
- Environmental Test Lab for durability assessments
- State-of-the-art Clean Rooms
- A Humidity-Controlled Store Room for sensitive components
- Test Fixtures for satellite assembly and testing
- Common Area Facilities and a Tool Room to support operations
During the meeting, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model was discussed as a possible framework for implementation, potentially forming a Joint Venture between the state and private stakeholders.
Highlighting the investment potential, Shri Yashas Karanam proposed an initial investment of ₹50 crore for Phase 1 of the project. If realized, the initiative could mark a strategic leap for Assam in the high-technology space and defence manufacturing ecosystem, creating skilled employment and encouraging further industrial development.

The state government has expressed keen interest in the proposal, indicating a forward-looking vision to position Assam as a key player in India’s growing aerospace sector.
