Manipur: Security Forcees Arrest Three Militants, Secure NH-37 Convoy

Imphal, June 7, 2025: Security forces continued extensive area domination and search operations across vulnerable and fringe areas in both the hill and valley districts of Manipur to maintain law and order.

Movement of 303 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highway-37 (NH-37) was successfully facilitated under tight security. Strict measures were enforced at all vulnerable points, and security convoys were deployed in sensitive stretches to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of the vehicles.

As part of routine law enforcement, 111 checkpoints (nakas) were established across multiple districts in the state. From these checkpoints, six individuals were detained by police for further verification.

In a significant breakthrough against insurgent activity, three active militants were arrested in separate operations. On June 5, Manipur Police arrested an active member of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), identified as Paonam Stephen Meitei, alias Loinaba (23), a resident of Moidangpok Awang Leikai, Imphal West. He was apprehended from Khumbong Bazar under Patsoi Police Station.

On June 6, security forces arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)], Sagolshem James Singh, alias Thoujan (27), of Phumlou Mayai Leikai, Imphal West. The arrest took place in the Elangkhanpokpi Mayai Leikai area under Waikhong Police Station, Kakching District. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession.

Later the same day, another KCP (PWG) operative, Wahengbam Herojit Singh, also known as Ilu or Bobo (31), was arrested from Wangoo Samushang under Kumbi Police Station, Bishnupur District. He was involved in widespread extortion from civilians, educational institutions, shopkeepers, and elected officials in the Kumbi area. A mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from him.
