Shillong, May 17, Virthli (ONP): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has announced a series of major eco-tourism initiatives aimed at enhancing visitor experiences in the state's renowned Living Root Bridge regions. During a visit to Wahlyngkhat in Pynursla, Sangma unveiled plans for a ₹30 crore Living Root Experience Center and the upgradation of trekking routes that lead to the iconic natural bridges.
The Experience Center will be developed under a Community Public Private Partnership (CPPP) model, with active involvement and support from local communities. The project aims to improve accessibility and provide immersive experiences to both tourists and trekkers visiting the scenic Living Root Bridges.
In addition to the center, the government plans to launch the ₹40 crore Wahkhen Residential Music Retreat. Designed to offer a cultural immersion, the retreat will blend music, indigenous traditions, and local hospitality, giving visitors a holistic taste of Meghalaya’s cultural richness.
Further expanding the state’s eco-tourism network, the Chief Minister also revealed plans to develop a dedicated trekking circuit around Mawkyrnot, Rangthylliang, and Mynrieng villages. The project will include another Living Root Bridges Experience Centre, with a focus on showcasing the region’s sacred groves and natural heritage.
