Saiphai Residents Undertake Road Repair to Ease Ration Transport Route

VIRTHLI

Saiphai, May 17, 2025, Virthli(ONP): Residents of Saiphai village in Kolasib District today undertook significant repair work on a critical road segment vital for the transportation of essential ration supplies to their area and neighboring villages. The community-led initiative addresses long-standing issues with the route, particularly exacerbated by recent monsoon conditions.

The road serves as a primary artery for delivering essential goods, including government-allocated rations, from the Vairengte godown via the Bagha route. This supply chain is crucial for the sustenance of several villages, including Saiphai, Saipum, and North Chawnpui. The standard route typically utilizes National Highway 306(A) passing through Phainuam.

However, a severely damaged section of NH 306(A) has presented considerable challenges to transportation. Villagers reported that the road had become nearly impassable, particularly following landslides during the recent monsoon season, disrupting the consistent flow of essential commodities and creating daily hardships.

In response to the urgent need, the Saiphai Village Council organized and spearheaded the community road repair effort. The initiative received support from the Public Works Department (PWD), which facilitated the deployment of a JCB machine to assist in clearing debris and repairing the damaged portions of the road.

The repair work saw active participation from the entire village, with every household contributing at least one member to the task. Stones required for the repairs were sourced and provided through the voluntary labor of the residents, underscoring the collective commitment to restoring the vital link.
