Tuiṭhaphai, May 26, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Former Chairman and Spokesperson of the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) HPC(D), Manipur Region, and Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) Member under the SoO group United Peoples Front (UPF), Pu Lathansang Pulamte @ L Sanga Hmar, was laid to rest with full honors on May 25, 2025, at his native village Thingchom, Tuiṭhaphai.
Pu Lathansang passed away on May 22, 2025, in Delhi. His final rites were conducted at 10:00 AM, with numerous Hmar organizations and community bodies - including Hmar Inpui GHQ, HYA GHQ, HSA GHQ, HYA Tuiṭhaphai JHQ, HSA Tuiṭhaphai JHQ, HNU, HPC(D) Manipur Region, HNA, the Hmar Returnees, and Sinlung Royal Riders - coming together to pay their last respects and tributes to the departed leader.
Chairman of HPC(D) Manipur Region, Pu Lalneikung Hmar, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and praised Pu Lathansang’s unwavering commitment and sacrifice for the Hmar people. He further said that his dedication, visionary leadership, and tireless contributions will be remembered and carried forward by the organization and the people he served.
Pu Ketheos Zomi, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, ZRO/ZRA, speaking on behalf of both ZRO and UPF, paid rich tributes, stating that Pu Lathansang was deeply respected and admired for his consistent, peace-oriented leadership. He noted that Pu Lathansang was a leader who always respected and upheld majority decisions, a patriot who loved his people, and a man who consistently put the Hmar nation above all else. He was a great asset to both the Hmar people and the UPF. The ZRA leadership organized a ceremonial homage, during which 30 cadres honored his memory with a respectful military salute.
On behalf of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), Pu Hemlal Haokip aka German Haokip, KNF(MC) & Defense Secretary, KNO, also delivered a condolence message, reaffirming that Pu Lathansang’s legacy would remain foundational for peace and unity within KNO/UPF-aligned communities. HNA Chief Pu Laltanpui and his cadres also shared condolence messages and took part in the tribute.
Besides formal tributes, numerous individuals from various walks of life attended the funeral. The burial service was held at Thingchom Cemetery around 3:30 PM and was led by Pastor Immanuel of the EFCI. Members of the HPC(D) Manipur Region cadres rendered a Condolence Salute, marking the dignified farewell of a leader deeply etched in the history of the Hmar movement.
