Guwahati, May 22, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a major development for higher education in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Guwahati is set to become one of the few cities in India to host premier institutions - IIT, AIIMS, and now an Indian Institute of Management (IIM).
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister shared that he met with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to discuss the timeline for operationalising the new IIM campus in Guwahati.
“Guwahati will soon be one of the few cities in India that is home to IIT, AIIMS and now IIM,” Sarma posted, calling the move a transformative step for the region’s academic and economic landscape.

The establishment of IIM in Guwahati will strengthen the city’s position as a rising educational hub in the Northeast, promising new opportunities for students and professionals alike.
