New Delhi/Tuiṭhaphai, May 22, 2025, Virthli (ONP): President Droupadi Murmu has conferred the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry award, upon Inspector Jeffrey Hmingchullo of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for his exceptional bravery during a high-risk anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand last year.
A native of Vengthlang, Rengkai, Churachandpur district in Manipur and a member of the Hmar community, Inspector Hmingchullo was among 14 recipients honoured with the Shaurya Chakra at the Defence Investiture Ceremony - I held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
The gallant action took place on 03 April 2023 in Naudiha, Chatra district, Jharkhand, where Inspector Hmingchullo was deployed with the 203 CoBRA Battalion under the leadership of Sh. Vikrant Kumar, DC. Acting on intelligence inputs of Maoist presence, the team launched a mission to neutralise the threat. As they advanced, the Maoists ambushed them with a heavy, sudden attack.
Despite intense enemy fire and grave personal risk, Inspector Hmingchullo pressed forward, exhibiting unmatched courage and composure. Taking the lead, he retaliated with tactical precision and helped neutralise two Maoist insurgents, ensuring the safety of his comrades and mission success.
The Ministry of Defence cited his “fearless actions and tactical brilliance” as instrumental in achieving the operation's objectives, describing his leadership under fire as a testament to his dedication and gallantry.
Inspector Hmingchullo’s recognition is a source of immense pride for the Hmar community and Manipur at large. He continues to serve with the 203 CoBRA Battalion, embodying the highest standards of courage and professionalism in India’s fight against insurgency.
