Guwahati, May 22, 2025, Virthli ONP): In a significant boost to connectivity and infrastructure in Assam, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has officially floated the tender for the much-anticipated Jorhat-Majuli Bridge, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today.
The proposed 6.81 km, 2-lane bridge will connect Jorhat to the river island Majuli, with an estimated cost of ₹600.51 crore. Once completed, the bridge is expected to drastically reduce travel time and enhance economic and social linkages between the Brahmaputra island district and the mainland.
Sharing the update on social media, CM Sarma expressed gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for his support. “Great news for Assam… My heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Union Minister @nitin_gadkari Ji for making this effort into a reality,” he tweeted.

The Jorhat-Majuli bridge has long been a demand of the people of Assam, especially the residents of Majuli, Asia’s largest river island, who rely heavily on ferries for transportation. The bridge promises safer and more reliable year-round access and is expected to spur regional development and tourism.
