Assam Cabinet Approves Major Infrastructure and Policy Initiatives Across the State

Guwahati, May 21, 2025: The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved a series of significant decisions aimed at infrastructure development, labor welfare, and environmental conservation. These announcements were made by the Chief Minister during a press briefing held earlier today.

Among the key infrastructure approvals:

₹229 crore has been sanctioned for Phase 2 of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, which includes the construction of residential quarters and associated facilities.

₹284 crore will be allocated for the construction of a new Assam Legislative Assembly building in Dibrugarh. The complex will include a state-of-the-art MLA hostel and a 1,000-seat auditorium.

₹209 crore has been approved to upgrade Khanikar Stadium in Dibrugarh. Once completed, the stadium will expand from 5,000 to 35,000 seats, making it the largest in Assam.

In a move to enhance labor welfare, the Cabinet approved the full implementation of the notified wages in all Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL) gardens, effective from October 1, 2025. Additionally, ₹205 crore was sanctioned as the final tranche of the state government’s committed investment contribution.

Environmental conservation also received a boost with the Cabinet’s approval for the final notification of over 47,000 hectares under the 6th addition to Kaziranga National Park, further expanding the state’s most iconic wildlife reserve.

Other notable policy decisions include:

A new personal security policy, allowing individuals facing verified threats to apply for security cover provided they bear the cost, subject to a rigorous threat assessment process.

The Cabinet also approved a new policy framework to promote a Concert Economy in Assam, aiming to support the growth of entertainment and cultural industries in the state.
