Imphal, May 31, 2025, Virthli: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has announced its intent to resume its agitation concerning the Gwaltabi incident once the prevailing flood situation across Manipur subsides. The decision follows a temporary suspension of protests, initiated to mitigate further public hardship amidst widespread weather-related disruptions.

During a press briefing held at the COCOMI office in Lamphel, Committee Convenor Khuraijam Athouba reaffirmed the organization's commitment to continue the agitation until its demands are fully met. These demands include a public apology from the Governor of Manipur regarding the Manipur State Transport (MST) bus incident in Gwaltabi and the resignation of senior officials deemed accountable.

Athouba emphasized that these core demands were the catalyst for the earlier 48-hour general strike, which commenced at midnight on May 21, and subsequently spurred a series of protest actions across the state. "We remain firm in our commitment to seek justice and accountability," he stated, explaining the temporary halt was solely due to severe flooding and adverse weather conditions.

COCOMI clarified that the suspension aims to ensure public safety and minimize additional distress during the natural calamity. The committee plans to assess the government’s response to its demands in consultation with apex civil society organizations and the broader public before determining the subsequent phase of the agitation.
