East Kameng, May 31, 2025, Virthli: In a heart-wrenching tragedy, seven members of two families are feared dead after their vehicle was swept away by a massive landslide on the Bana-Seppa road late last night. The incident occurred amidst relentless rainfall that has battered the region for days.
According to local sources, the car was en route to Seppa when it was engulfed by the landslide and plunged into a deep gorge. The victims have been identified as Sanju Badi (32), his wife Tasum Badi, their children Kachung (5) and Nicha (2), as well as the pregnant wife and two children of Sichi Yame. Eyewitnesses report that no survivors have been found.
The vehicle remains buried under a thick layer of debris, making rescue operations extremely difficult. Teams are battling poor weather and unstable terrain as they continue recovery efforts.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his sorrow over the tragedy. “My heart goes out to the families affected. We are working round-the-clock to ensure safety and support,” he stated, while directing authorities to expedite relief and restore road connectivity.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also shared his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“Deeply saddened by the tragic landslide in Arunachal Pradesh that claimed seven innocent lives. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May the departed souls rest in peace. Prayers for strength and healing to all affected by this heartbreaking loss.”
