Aizawl, May 31, 2025, Virthli: In the wake of recent heavy rains and storms, large-scale disruptions to power supply have been reported across various districts in Mizoram. The Power & Electricity Department has launched urgent restoration work to repair widespread damage to transmission lines, transformers, and substations caused by strong winds, lightning, and fallen trees.
Aizawl District
Significant areas remain without power, including the Mizoram New Capital Complex and the Assembly House, due to faults in the High Court feeder and Tlangnuam lines. Repairs are underway on damaged 11kV and 33kV lines across Tlangnuam, Chawlhhmun, and Melthum.
A fault at Luangmual Sub-Station on May 30 disrupted supply to Aizawl West I, Sihhmui, Lengpui, Sairang, and Tlangnuam. In addition, Durtlang, Nausel, and Neihbawih continue to experience outages due to damaged feeders. The New Jail feeder remains inoperative.
Kolasib District
Power outages continue in Lungdai, Hortoki, and Sentlang due to multiple faults on 11kV and 33kV lines. Repair efforts are ongoing despite poor weather conditions.
Mamit District
While power is being supplied through the 132kV and 33kV network, interior villages and outlying areas continue to suffer due to local distribution failures. Restoration is underway in affected areas like Kawrthah, Rengdil, Hriphaw, and Marpara.
Champhai & Khawzawl Districts
A fault in the 132kV Zuangtui-Saitual-Khawzawl line on May 30 disrupted supply to Champhai and Khawzawl, which was later restored via alternative routes. However, damage to the Vankal Solar Park and related infrastructure limits consistent power delivery. Restoration work is ongoing.
Lunglei District
Multiple feeder lines including the Kawmzawl Sub-Station, Zotlang, Tlabung-Borapansury, and Lungsen-Chawngte have been affected by fallen trees and landslides. Emergency repairs are ongoing in Pukpui, Chawngte, Borapansury, and other remote areas.
Lawngtlai District
A fault in the Chawnhu Sub-Station's transformer has caused continued outages. Damage to distribution transformers in Lawngtlai town is also being addressed.
Siaha District
The Meisatla - Tuipang and Tuipang ‘V’–Phura 33kV lines have sustained storm-related damage. Repairs are in progress alongside restoration of several 11kV and LT lines.
Serchhip District
Though the Zuangtui–Bukpui line has been restored, fresh issues at Serchhip 132kV Sub-Station have led to ongoing outages. Power to Serchhip town is being gradually restored.
Saitual District
The Saitual 11kV line remains down, with continued issues reported on the Mualpheng feeder. Restoration is ongoing.
Hnahthial District
Complete outages continue due to faults in the 33kV Bukpui-Hnahthial and Theiriat-Hnahthial lines. Repair efforts are underway.
The Power & Electricity Department stated that teams are working round-the-clock to restore supply in affected areas. Remote villages and towns face greater delays due to accessibility challenges and persistent adverse weather.
