Guwahati, May 14, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a significant blow to the drug trafficking network operating across state lines, Assam Police on Tuesday seized heroin worth ₹3.5 crore near Nilambazar Railway Station in Karimganj district. The operation led to the arrest of two women and marked yet another milestone in the state’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive under the “Assam Against Drugs” campaign.
Acting on confidential intelligence, Sribhumi Police apprehended the two suspects while they were allegedly attempting to transport the illicit substances via train. A total of 616.24 grams of heroin concealed in 55 soap cases was recovered from their possession.
Confirming the operation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the swift action in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“In a decisive strike, Sribhumi Police nabbed two women near Nilambazar Railway Station, recovering 616.24g of drugs based on secret information. Assam Police is hitting hard – no pause, no mercy!”
The Chief Minister’s remarks reflect the state government’s assertive stance against drug trafficking, as Assam continues to tighten enforcement and surveillance measures along key transit routes.
The two accused, both believed to be residents of neighboring Tripura, are currently in custody and are being interrogated to determine the broader network involved in the smuggling operation.

Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings will be initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, with the possibility of additional charges pending further investigation.
This latest seizure underscores Assam Police’s continued vigilance and aggressive strategy in combating narcotics, reinforcing the message that drug traffickers will find no safe haven in
