Guwahati, May 14, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a landmark digital transformation, the Assam government has overhauled its transport services, achieving record efficiency, transparency, and savings by moving major services online. As part of its anti-corruption and citizen empowerment drive, the state now boasts India’s highest number of contactless transport services available online — 56 in total.
Powered by the mVahan App, services such as fitness tests for vehicles are now digital and geo-tagged, ensuring full accountability. The initiative has led to over 34 lakh services availed, saving the state an estimated ₹500 crore and over 1 crore person-days.
Key milestones in the overhaul include:
• 100% online transactions with no manual intervention, ensuring zero leakage and full transparency.
• Over 15 lakh digital driving licenses and registration certificates (eDL & eRC) issued in a paperless, instant format.
• Dealer-based vehicle registrations rolled out at scale, with 14 lakh vehicles registered directly at showrooms.
• Launch of CM-TRANS, a randomized processing system designed to eliminate middlemen and ensure fairness in service delivery.
